Evening of Laughter Benefits Wellspring … The fifth annual “Beat The Blahhhs - Girls Night Out”, held in early spring, turned out to be the most successful yet. The sold out event raised an astounding $12,500 for Wellspring, Oakville's own Cancer Support Center.

Local Moodivational speaker Carole Bertuzzi Luciani wowed the full house crowd with her sidewalk view of the world of both beauty and fitness. Pat Brown from Wellspring, said “it was one the best fun raisers I've ever been to and I laughed until my stomach hurt!”

This year's event brought the total money raised close to $40,000. Previous recipient of the event was Breast Cancer Support Services in Burlington. Co-organizer Lori Ralph says “we know the money is very much appreciated as Wellspring does not receive any kind of government funding.”

The funds raised at this very successful event will be used to fund both The Healing Journey program and the Breast Cancer Support Group at Wellspring Halton-Peel.

The Healing Journey is a multi-level program offered at Wellspring to individuals and families facing cancer. Based on 20 years of clinical research, this program was developed by Dr. Alastair Cunningham at the Princess Margaret Hospital and has been adapted to work within the community-based setting at Wellspring. Dr. Cunningham's research supports the findings of other experts, which have shown that practicing the methods taught in the Healing Journey on a regular basis can significantly diminish anxiety, depression, fatigue, nausea and pain in cancer patients.

As well, there is some evidence which suggests that these supportive care techniques may help patients live longer than had been predicted initially by the medical community. Wellspring is very appreciative of the financial support received from the Beat the Blahhs fundraiser and its many sponsors and supporters.
